Red Hook CPF Next Step Important

Regarding Red Hook Community Preservation Fund (CPF), it is very important that the Red Hook Town Board complete the task of appointing a committee and identifying the land to be protected. Although our version of the CPF will not generate the kind of revenue generated on the east end of Long Island, it must be administered properly. This Board's stewardship will be important in the next election. Submitted byVictor Behoriam, Red Hook. Please see the entire Long Island Independent article at www.redhookbugle.com for CPF background information.

I have never been in favor of the CPF, as it is just another tax on the populous. Red Hook is not the Hamptons, nor does it draw that type of purchaser. The Town already has funds available for open space with the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program. Based upon the past few years, very few of the properties considered under the PDR program had development rights worth anything or are not the type of properties the program was designed to benefit.

I, for one, would be for a referendum to repeal the CPF
