The EDC Report to the Town Board and Village Boards of Red Hook was just published on the town web site www.redhook.org. Come to the presentation tonight at 7:00pm at the Town Hall to see the whole overview. It promises to be an "eye-opener."

Cheers to our County Clerk Brad Kendall for caring to let the residents know about the ability to obtain a certified deed from the clerk's office for a fraction of the fee that these third party groups are trying to take via email.

DC is fortunate to have a great public servant in our County Clerk, Brad Kendall.

I was stunned to hear that even ONE person would consider removing one of the POSTIVE acts still allowed in our education system that encourages our youth to RESPECT and HONOR their/our country. The country which allows that ONE VOTE of negativity to be heard.
I would pray that the person who suggested this negative act against the USA, contemplate the very country they are currently living and thriving in.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."...I say AMEN!

Comparing FAFSA and Voting rights is like comparing apples and oranges….

Eligibility for New York State sponsored scholarships, grants and loans is limited to students who meet the New York State residency requirements as it applies to student loans

Residency Requirements for Voting
The Supreme Court decision of March 21, 1972, declared lengthy requirements for voting in state and local elections unconstitutional and suggested that 30 days was an ample period. Most of the states have changed or eliminated their durational residency requirements to comply with the ruling, as shown. Note, for all states, in order to register to vote, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of the state, and 18 years old on or before election day. Additionally, most states do not permit an individual to vote if he or she is a convicted felon currently serving time in prison or has been declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.

Enough all ready… they have the right, now get over it.

Comment on Red Hook CPF Next Step Important

I have never been in favor of the CPF, as it is just another tax on the populous. Red Hook is not the Hamptons, nor does it draw that type of purchaser. The Town already has funds available for open space with the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program. Based upon the past few years, very few of the properties considered under the PDR program had development rights worth anything or are not the type of properties the program was designed to benefit.

I, for one, would be for a referendum to repeal the CPF

To those who think that the actions taken by departing Bd member Crane and the interem appt. by the Bd is unseemly; Ask yourself HONESTLY what would you have done in similar circumstances. And IF, you can HONESTLY answer that you would have waited for the new Bd to be seated before choosing someone to fill the seat, ask yourself what the good people of Red Hook would have thought of your actions. How naive they would have thought you. AND, know that your postponing the replacement for the new Bd would have created a 2-2 deadlock that could have dragged out the process for months!!! Good call Mrs. Crane. And besides, the fact that the Voters put Sue Crane in the Supervisor Chair, means that they wanted her to influence her replacement. In our form of Gov't, the person who comes in SECOND is NOT the ASST. Supervisor or De facto Bd. member; he is simply the loser. But you know what? He or she is free to run again!

The comment regarding the board's decision to appoint Rob Latimer speaks volumes as to the lack of maturity of the individual making it. It also says a lot about the attitude of the members of the opposition party who support said comments and their lack of ability and desire in meeting the needs of the entire community of 10500 people over the few special interests who want to own and divide up the town into their little private kingdoms.

Last night's display at the Town Board Meeting was embarrassing to say the least. As a resident of this Town, it was hard to sit quietly and not scream out at the people's comments sitting all around me about our Town Board. How childish! Why not just try to all work together for the future of this town and welcome all the new Board members?

Glad to finally see a site that will print the truth and not bash people. We like the idea that you can respond to any articles on this site, unlike Red Hook Concerns. This town must unite. To outsiders our town is known as the "snake pit". We also feel that Rob Latimer is an excellent choice for the Town Board.
